“A pillar of the pharmacy community, he leads by example,” describes the recipient of the 2018 Bowl of Hygeia Award – Pharmacist Charles “Laddie” Burdette.
He will be presented the Award at the Charleston Marriott, August 18, during the WVPA 111th Annual Convention at the Charleston Marriott. The Award is sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).
Laddie has served West Virginia in many ways, including being a member of the Board of Pharmacy, director of a multi-state retail pharmacy organization and an inductee into the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy Hall of Fame.
His patients respect him and follow his advice for their prescription needs. He is also respected by his fellow colleagues who have worked for him and with him.
His mentor was the late-Jack Fruth, who grew a multi-state pharmacy. The work he did at Fruth Pharmacy is highly recognized by industry officials.
Laddie took an active role in advancing the West Virginia Pharmacists Association, and always attended its meetings to interface with other pharmacists.
He paved the way for pharmacists to undertake diabetes care in the State’s Face-2-Face program, as well as Medication Therapy Management (MTM).
