The West Virginia Pharmacists Association’s 111th Annual Convention is scheduled for August 17 and 18, 2018, at the Charleston Marriott Hotel in Charleston.
To kickoff the meeting, pharmacists can earn their required drug diversion continuing education course Friday evening, August 17, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The three-hour course is required every two years. It is enforced by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Financial penalties can be imposed for not completing the course, as required by the West Virginia Legislature.
Saturday’s program includes Future Trends and Technologies in Pharmacy presented by Adam S. Chesler, PharmD. He will explain some of the advances in technology and how it is impacting the delivery of services. He will describe upcoming trends seen in the pharmacy industry and how it might change the practice of pharmacy.
Michael Goff, Interim Executive Secretary and Controlled Substance Monitoring Program Administrator of the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy, will present an update on pharmacy law, including bills enacted by the West Virginia Legislature in 2018. He will also update the Controlled Substance Monitoring Program, and discuss the 2017 statute to legalize medical marijuana.
Dani Dolin, PharmD, CDE, CPT, will present an immunization update, including the latest ACIP immunization recommendations and changes in the adult vaccination schedule. She will also provide guidance on the use of herpes zoster vaccines, as well as describe the use, dosing and other factors related to Hepatiitis B vaccine.
Krista Capehart, PharmD; Olivia Bunner, PharmD; Allison DeLancey, PharmD; Kelsi Hines, PharmD; and Lan Le, PharmD. will conduct the Student Pharmacist Self-Care Championship competition with students from the schools of pharmacy.
WVPA membership meeting will be held to discuss current issues of West Virginia pharmacists and the Association.
A reception honoring Past Presidents will be held the evening of August 18, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by the 111th Annual Convention Installation and Awards Dinner.
Awards will be present the following WVPA members: J. J. Bernabei – Dr. James H. Beal Award; Charles “Laddie” Burdette – Bowl of Hygeia; Chelsea Gresham – Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award; Mark P. Garofoli – Generation Rx Champion’s Award; and Gretchen Kreckel Garofoli – Excellence In Innovation Award.
