WVPA Annual Convention Update

Plans for WVPA’s 111th Annual Convention will be finalized and sent members the week of June 18.   The meeting is scheduled for August 17 & 18 at the Charleston Marriott Hotel, 200 Lee Street, Charleston.   Telephone 304-345-6500 for room reservations.

Craig Kimble, President, will preside over the Convention.   Attracting pharmacists to attend, the programs include two (2) certificate programs. presented by the WVU School of Pharmacy, and the Board of Pharmacy required drug diversion course on August 17.   The three-hour drug diversion course is required of pharmacists every two years to maintain their West Virginia license.

Saturday, August 18, will contain subjects on experiential learning, advocacy, law update and immunizations.   The featured program “The Future of Pharmacy” is being sponsored by Cardinal Health.   It’s objectives include: The advances in technology and how it is impacting the delivery of services;  Upcoming trend seen in the pharmacy industry and how it might change the practice of pharmacy; Possible barriers to entry and ramifications of implementation; and Future implications of the safe practice of pharmacy.

As per Adam Chester, PharmD, Director of Regulatary Affairs for Cardinal Health, “With rapid advances in science, new technology and trends in pharmacy constantly being proposed to improve patient outcomes and delivery of quality more is being required and expected of pharmacists.  From 3D printing of drugs to technician administered immunizations technology is changing the way we look at pharmacy.  During this one-hour presentation we’ll discuss some trends that are already impacting the practice today, as well as new innovations that are on the horizon.  We’ll also dive into some of the legal ramification of these changes both today and in the future.”

Ken Reed, current WVPA President Elect, will be installed as President for the two coming years during the Convention dinner, August 18.
