Sought and supported by West Virginia Pharmacists Association the 2016 West Virginia Legislature passed, and Governor Earl Ray Tomblin signed, Senate Bill 431 authorizing pharmacists and pharmacy interns to dispense an opioid antagonist without a prescription.
Provisions of the new law were published in the April/May WVPA newsletter mailed members, May 9.
WVPA President Krista Capehart, PharmD, MSPharm, AE-C, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research at WVU School of Pharmacy, published “Naloxone Counseling Tips and Information” and “Ordering the Correct Naxolone Product” which were sent WVPA members, July 26.
